Shekhar Suman Defends His Show, Says PM Modi Is Not Weak Enough to Fear Political Satire

'Don't think PM Narendra Modi is so weak that his government would call me up for such a small show,' says Shekhar Suman as he defends comments made on his show
Actor and TV host Shekhar Suman has defended his YouTube show ‘Shekhar Tonite’ after his comments on politics sparked discussions. He said that his show is not against the BJP or any political party. Instead, it focuses on problems in the system and questions those in power.

In an interview with The Lallantop, Shekhar said he does not believe that Prime Minister Narendra Modi or his government would be worried about a small show like his. He also said that he had not received any calls from the government asking him to stop the show or change his comments.

Shekhar explained that his aim is to speak for the public and point out problems wherever they exist. He said that his show is pro-people and not against any particular leader or party.

The actor also spoke about his earlier show, ‘Movers & Shakers’, which first aired in 1997 and returned in 2012. He said that he had made jokes about several political leaders, including former prime ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh.

Shekhar also addressed the discussion around Enforcement Directorate (ED) searches linked to the show’s producer, Dharmesh Sangani. He said he did not know the exact reason for the searches and did not want to connect them to his show without knowing the facts.

The actor believes that political satire is an important part of democracy. According to him, people should be able to question those in power and speak about issues that affect the country.

Shekhar made it clear that ‘Shekhar Tonite’ is meant to highlight public concerns through humour. He said that criticising the system does not mean being against the government and that his intention is to raise questions, not target anyone personally.
